Richard H. Tilghman IV
Rich has tried cases, argued appeals and motions, deposed expert and lay witnesses, and mediated cases to resolution in state and federal courts across the country. He has advocated for clients in shareholder disputes, class actions, insurance coverage litigation, and patent litigation. He has defended personal injury cases and worked on a variety of other complex commercial cases.
Some of Rich’s significant experience includes:

Obtaining dismissal of a class action suit seeking over $70 million in damages;

Successfully defending a national class action suit brought against a local company under the Illinois Consumer Fraud Act;

Obtaining a dismissal of a suit by an insurance company seeking a declaratory judgment finding no coverage for a client’s underlying personal injury suit;

Successfully defending a client against a claim for preliminary injunctive relief to prevent the sale of a coffee business;

Arguing before the Illinois Appellate Court in a case involving allegations of negligent investment advice;

Obtaining a no liability verdict in a suit brought by a landlord against a tenant accused of breaching her lease;

Obtaining a reversal of the suspension of a client’s liquor license in a case before the Chicago License Appeal Commission; and

Representing clients in various federal patent litigation matters.
